Do you want to do a longer course but don't have the time?

If a student books a 5 day or 10 day training course and then decides to come back at a future date to do more studies such as the 4 week course then they will only pay for the weeks that they have missed – for example a 10 day student who wants to complete the four week course need only come back and do the additional 2 weeks and will only be charged for 2 weeks.

Mr Gary Williams undertook his formal training at the then world famous Ivor Spencer International School for Butler Administrators in Dulwich, London. The school was established in 1981 and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales invested Ivor Spencer (the founder), with the MBE at Buckingham Palace in 2002.

After successful completion of his formal training and top of his class Mr Gary Williams was appointed in his first butler position at The Ritz London as the Head butler where he was responsible for overseeing all the luxury suites, including The Royal Suite, and attending to the requests and requirements of the many VIP guests including Royalty, Prime Ministers, Heads of state, Movie Icons, Musicians and many more.

He was then head-hunted by a leading London recruitment company to be Major Domo (Head Butler) for one of England’s most prominent families, looking after Studley Royal House in North Yorkshire. Here he employed all his formal training skills to deliver according to his principals needs in a substantial country house environment which included the managing and training of a large house hold staff complement. After this position Mr Gary Williams worked for many discerning clients around the world, including members of Royal families, prime ministers, Russian and Chinese Oligarchs, principals of British and international industry, IT billionaires, famous musicians and artists, and many more as Head Butler. Mr Gary Williams then set up Quintessentially Butlers, part of the Quintessentially Group, the world’s leading global concierge company, this was after heading up a team of three executive concierge professional to look after a group of Russian Oligarchs and their families from an office in Mayfair London. Mr Gary Williams was also appointed Head Butler at the Brazilian Embassy in London.

With this wealth of practical hands-on work experience from across the luxury sector Mr Gary Williams was entrusted by The British Butler Institute to head up the training team as Principal with the responsibility of developing the brand with the vision to be the finest butler and service centre of excellence training school in its field and expanding The British Butler Institute brand worldwide working with partners from across the globe to train service excellence professionals to match the demand of discerning clients the world over.

The professional butler’s role is changing and thus we train skilled professionals to meet the service demands of the 21st Century, equipping students with the knowledge relevant to today’s job market worldwide.

Before you choose a butler school ascertain the skills of the trainers and, crucially, ask if they have been butlers before. All of our trainers have worked as butlers and have a huge range of skills and hands-on practical knowledge built up over many years of working for Royalty / Celebrities / Icons of Business / Luxury Hotels / Super Yachts and for residential clients of all nationalities from around the world. They oversee our syllabus and curriculum to ensure that the latest relevant methodology is being taught to the highest standards.


Butler Skills

The Modern butler should have classic and contemporary butler skills. That is why The British Butler Institute offers cooking classes, flower design classes, mixology classes and expert shoe care and valet skills as part of the 4 week program.

We are also the only Butler School that offers dog care and handling, expert training in concierge skills and attendance at our Finishing School as part of the curriculum.

Other subjects include household management, event planning, the shoot, the finer points of chauffeuring, etiquette and protocol, clothing care, butler skills, table setting and service, risk management, housekeeping, security, managing the cellar, wine and spirits, cigars, caviar, first aid and human resources to name but a few.

Our training experts are the very best at what they do, with years of hands-on practical knowledge in the luxury residential and hospitality markets. They oversee our syllabus and curriculum to ensure that the latest relevant methodology is being taught to the highest standards.

Job Interview Methodology

During the program a placement expert will present a workshop on current interview techniques and help with assimilation of a professional resume, introducing students to our unique “Two-hour Principle Interview” methodology.

We are honoured with diverse students from all backgrounds and nationalities, age groups and cultures and welcome all to our Butler Training School.


Dress Code

The dress code for students attending the school and for site visits is as follows:

  • Gentlemen must wear a shirt, collar and tie and a suit.

  • Ladies: smart trousers / dress / skirt or blouse.

All students will need a notepad and pens.


Limited Spaces Available

Please note: The British Butler Institute limits the number of places available on each training programme. This enables our expert instructors to concentrate on the individual needs and aspirations of each and every student. Should you be interested in studying at our school we advise that you apply as early as possible so as to avoid disappointment.

Should the training programme be full but you have an important reason why you must join that specific programme (and you do not wish to wait for the next), then please e-mail us your CV and the reason you wish to book onto the course. In certain cases we will allow you join that programme. Personal reasons might be that you are wishing to take a new career path as soon as possible or that due to certain responsibilities you are only available for a specific time in the year.
